Mens Renaissance Shoes
Posted by: | CommentsMen’s renaissance shoes are not all that difficult to find, but finding affordable mens renaissance shoes can be much more difficult. From time to time you can find a costume shop that’s running a clearance, or a quality pair of used shoes or boots, but the serious reenactor, actor, or faire-goer will require something a bit more sturdy.
This can be quite expensive, and if your foot or legs are an unusual size, it will take quite some time to have your men’s rennaissance shoes custom made to fit your feet. Simple pointed shoes, or the medieval equivalent of our modern Mary Jane style shoes may take less time and usually cost far less than renaissance boots. Generally speaking, ankle boots cost less than knee high boots, which in turn cost less than thigh boots. Medieval and renaissance period shoes and boots can often be interchanged. Not a whole lot changed in basic footwear during those periods, and even today a pair of medieval or renaissance era boots don’t look terribly out of place if they’re well made. The shoes, of course, are noticeably different, particularly if you favor curled toe shoes.
If you have rather standard sized feet a good solution is to order your renaissance footwear over the internet. Of course, many leather sandals will pass if you’re not striving for total historical accuracy in your historical clothing, but another option is to make your own renaissance period shoes. Or, technically, mock up rennaisance shoes or make medieval bag shoes. This is easy to do, but one requires an investment, and the other requires work.
If you’re interested in either of these other options, feel free to trawl around this website for more info on men’s renaissance shoes.
